Abortion laws in Poland

Poland currently has among the tightest abortion laws in Europe. A woman can only have an abortion of there is a threat to her life, where the pregnancy is a result of rape or if there is severe or irreversible damage to the foetus. Thousands took to the streets last month to protest against plans for a near total ban on abortion. They were listened to and MPs voted against the plans. But the issue isn’t over. The government rushed through new legislation shortly afterwards to provide incentives to women who choose to give birth to disabled children, a measure that has angered campaigners.
