Techniquest at 30
Adam Walton visits the Techniquest science centre in Cardiff as it celebrates in 30th birthday. Since 1986 it has been a fixture for school visits and families looking for a stimulating and educational day out.
It began as the idea of Professor John Beetlestone and some of his colleagues in Cardiff University, who, inspired by the science centres in the USA, set up their own science discovery centre in the old gas showroom in central Cardiff. Over the years it grew and now is housed in a two storey building in the Bay.
The organisation, that works closely with schools to plan the most relevant events and experiences, is facing a phasing out of funding it receives from the Welsh Government over the next five year and is planning new strategies to support its work.
Adam gets to try his hand at the "Pipes Of Pan" and explore other exhibits, and we hear from a school party from Newport.
There's also a visit to Techniquest Glyndwr in Wrexham, which offers a similar science experience to the centre in Cardiff but is run as a separate educational charity.
