As the clocks go back Nicola Weir talks tips for energy savings and personal safety this week. What's on offer to help keep you warm this winter - the Energy Saving Trust are in studio with some quick tips. And as the nights get longer what measures can you take to help keep crime away, a PSNI crime prevention officer points out some of the things we do that make us vulnerable and some simple changes that could make a real difference. And signalling the changes - rail passengers from the North-West will soon be on the bus.

ENERGY SAVING TRUST RECOMMENDATIONS

The Energy Saving Trust also offer the following hints and tips they say could save households in Northern Ireland Β£38 million.ΜύΜύ

  • Move furniture away from radiators
    Move furniture away from radiators if you can – ask someone to help if it’s heavy. It will bring warmth more easily into the room.

  • Draught proof
    Draught-proofing windows and doors could save as much as Β£27 a year. 46 per cent of people still need to draught-proof their windows and doors. This could save almost Β£10m a year.

  • Energy Saving light bulbs
    Replacing all standard bulbs and halogen spotlights in your home with energy saving light bulbs could save you around Β£40 a year.ΜύSwapping incandescent bulbs for energy saving and halogens for LEDs could save Northern Ireland around Β£10m a year.

  • Standby
    You can save around Β£35 a year just by remembering to turn your appliances off standby mode.

  • Kettle
    Filling the kettle up with as much water as needed could save almost Β£8 in energy bills a year and over Β£1m for Northern Ireland.

  • Shower smarter
    Spending one minute less in the shower each day could save around Β£6 off energy bills each year. At least 25 per cent of people could cut a minute off their showers. This could save Northern Ireland around Β£1m a year.
