Semtex's history of hip-hop

In his book, Hip Hop Raised Me, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ1Xtra's DJ Semtex has compiled rare archive photos, alongside interviews with hip hop legends. He joins Huey to talk about the project.

From its origins in the early 1970s with DJ Kool Herc's block parties in the South Bronx, through its breakthrough to the mainstream and advent of gangsta rap in the late 1980s, with artists such as Run DMC, Public Enemy and Ice T, to the impact of contemporary artists and the global industry that is hip hop today. Hip-hop artists have gone from hustlers to successful entrepreneurs and businessmen. Hip hop has come of age.
DJ Semtex lovingly tells that story in his new book, Hip Hop Raised Me. The book features a foreword from Public Enemy's Chuck D, as well as interviews with legends such as Jay-Z, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Nas and the Wu-Tang Clan. Alongside the interviews, Semtex has unearthed some rare and beautiful photos from the archives of iconic hip hop photographers.
In this show, Semtex shares his pivotal hip hop moments with Huey.

Huey also airs exclusive live session tracks by Lady Wray from her Queen Alone album.
