Celebrating Quincy Jones - From Cheltenham Jazz Festival

Singers Ian Shaw, Madeline Bell, Tony Momrelle and Liv Warfield celebrate Thriller producer Quincy Jones with the Guy Barker Big Band and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra.

Another chance to hear Friday Night Is Music Night from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a special concert originally broadcast live from the Big Top, celebrating the legendary orchestrator, conductor, composer and producer, Quincy Jones. With singers Ian Shaw, Madeline Bell, Tony Momrelle and Liv Warfield, plus the Guy Barker big band and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Concert Orchestra. Quincy Jones began his career at eleven when he discovered his great love and talent for music. When he moved to New York he met and played with many of his jazz heroes including Lionel Hampton, Miles Davis and Count Basie and continued his friendship with his boyhood friend Ray Charles. Establishing himself as a conductor and arranger he worked with some of the greatest singers of the twentieth century including Dinah Washington , Sarah Vaughan, Nat King Cole, Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson - to name a few! This concert covers his career from his first sneaking into the jook joints to hear his jazz heroes right through the golden age of big band jazz working with Count Basie and Frank Sinatra, to his world beating albums with Michael Jackson including the iconic album 'Thriller'.
