Nitrate Vulnerable Zones - a Welsh government consultation on plans to extend rules designed to tackle agricultural pollution is soon expected to get underway. are areas designated as being at risk from agricultural nitrate pollution and the rules are designed to improve water quality in rivers and lakes. Currently the zones cover only about 3% of land in Wales but they could be extended to a wider swathe of Pembrokeshire, parts of Carmarthenshire and Anglesey too and some farmers fear they could face tougher restrictions on fertiliser and manure spreading.
