The London Philharmonic Orchestra's new season opens with a concert of Debussy, Szymanowski and Bartók. At the dawn of the 20th century Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune released a flood-tide of musical colour. Nicola Benedetti performs both of Szymanowski's violin concertos, then the full orchestra goes for broke as it enters the neon-lit fantasy-world of Bartók's The Miraculous Mandarin: music that's brutal, brilliant and utterly breathtaking.
