The Canonisation of Mother Teresa - Part One

On the day that Mother Teresa becomes Saint Teresa, Ann Widdecombe explores the canonisation of the world's most famous nun, renowned for dedicating her life to the poor. Even in her lifetime she was known as "the Saint of the gutters", and Ann, as a Catholic, was one of the many who championed her sainthood. In Dublin, where the young Teresa began her religious vocation, we meet Archbishop Diarmuid Martin to unravel the process of becomingΜύa saint. We also meet Sister Philomena O'Dowd who followed in the footsteps of Mother Teresa as a Loreto sister both in Dublin and Calcutta.

Grant Douglas is a computing expert with a successful career in IT support. He also has cerebral palsy. This lifelong condition makes seemingly simple everyday tasks very difficult. However, through a chance discussion at a church meeting, Grant was able to put a light bulb moment into a design that would help him and thousands of others.

The work of Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity, the order she founded, touched many thousands of lives. We hear the remarkable stories of a former orphan with polio, Gautam Lewis, who was abandoned at Mother Teresa's children's home in Calcutta and Dr. Patricia Lewis, a British volunteer who chose to adopt him.
