Shorthorn cattle, Horse treadmill and African farming
The latest news about food, farming and the countryside, with Caz Graham. Featuring shorthorn cattle, a treadmill for horses and farming in Africa.
A native breed of cattle is enjoying a huge resurgence in popularity - the number of breeding female Beef Shorthorns has increased by a massive 1,400 percent in the past decade. Farming Today visits a farmer who is enjoying this rise in his fortunes. The UK's Olympians are having a fantastic time in Rio including Charlotte Dujardin who has retained her Individual Dressage title on her horse Valegro. Keeping a top flight horse like that in world class condition takes a lot of work, and at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire they've been helping with its training on what was the UK's first equine water treadmill. We hear how it works. All this week Farming Today's Anna Jones has been reporting from Africa as she and her fellow Nuffield Farming Scholars travel through the continent, and today they're on a dairy farm in Kenya.
