Olympics (Part 1)

Debbie Flood is a seasoned Olympian rower.ÌýÌý Her faith has always played an important part in her life, initially her sporting career was on a different path as a Judo competitor.Ìý Winning silver in the women’s 4 sculling category in the Athens games of 2004, the team were expected to take gold in Beijing, but alas it was to be silver again. Debbie, now retired from Olympic competition works with the group ‘Christians in Sport’ and is off to Rio to support team GB.Ìý

Rugby League Fans Choir Competition

Phyllis Thorman is one of the winners of the Songs of Praise Rugby League Fans Choir competition. ÌýPhyllis’ dedication to her boys love of rugby was the reason why her friend Jayne nominated her for the competition.Ìý She now has the opportunity to sing ‘Abide With Me’, on the pitch as part of a choir, just before the start of the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

On the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter, Pam Rhodes visits the Lake District to discover more about the great children’s author and her faith.

Anne Wafula- Strike was born in Mihu, Kenya, a fit and healthy child before polio struck when she was two years old. ÌýShe was given the middle name of Olympia at birth, a title of prophetic significance for the future and prescient of hurdles she would face in forthcoming years.

Coventry girl Kare Adenegan at 15 years old competed at the Anniversary Games for a place in the team bound for Rio.Ìý Kare is a T34 wheelchair-racer, who only started racing three and a half years ago when she was inspired while watching the Paralympics of London 2012.Ìý She has rapidly risen to compete with her heroes in wheel chair racing, winning silver at the IPC Athletics World Championships 2015 in Doha. ÌýKare juggles her sport, school and spiritual life, attending ‘Renewal Christian Centre’, Solihull; her faith is an important part of her life.Ìý At the Anniversary Games the training paid off as Kare achieved a 100 metres personal best time; a silver medal and a place in the Rio team competing for honours in the 100, 400 and 800m races.
