Script:

Good morning. When on this day in 1978, Louise Brown was born, she became famous for being the first child to be conceived through In Vitro Fertilisation or IVF as its more widely known now. The media called her by the rather inaccurate title of a 'Test Tube Baby'. I remember that caused me some confusion - how would they ever get her in or out of the tube without breaking the glass I asked my mother. In my defence, I was only nine years old at the time.
Μύ
What was a revolution back in 1978 is now more common-place and yet there is always a wealth of wonder and worry as any child is born. An angel came to Mary during her pregnancy to remind her that the child that she would have was holy.
Μύ
Of course, while the angel is particular to the story of Jesus, I think there are good and sacred things waiting to be born within us all. There may be deep desires to love and be loved. Perhaps we long to be more creative with our talents or we have a hunger for a better world.Μύ I believe that all such things and many more are the hopes of heaven that are waiting to be born in each of us. If we can realise such deep potentials in ourselves and others then we can birth a new era of discovery.Μύ
Μύ
And if all of this seems most unlikely then we might remind ourselves of the last words that the angel said to Mary: 'nothing is impossible with God.'
Μύ
Creator God,
bring to live in us today
some new child of holiness
teach us to mother it to its full potential
and father it to a wise maturity
and if it be your will
grant us some opportunity
to midwife the possibilities you have placed in others
Amen
