More about the programme

Japanese knotweed has a reputation for wrecking homes and house sales wherever it crops up - which includes large swathes of Wales.

Current treatments include spraying with weed-killer or trying to dig out its invasive root system.

But a new front in the battle against knotweed could be opened up if trails underway in south Wales bear fruit.

Last month the introduction of insects which feed on knotweed back in Japan was stepped up at six secret locations as part of an experiment in controlling the plant here.

Presenter Nelli Bird talks to the scientist behind that research and also meets a man whose dream of moving to Spain is on hold because of the Japanese knotweed looming over his bungalow.
