Satinder Sartaaj Presents
Singer Satinder Sartaaj discusses the elements of a Sufi song and how Sufi music needs to increase its audience in order to flourish, plus he picks his favourite Sufi songs.
Prepare to be touched mentally, physically and spiritually by mystical vibes as superstar singer Satinder Sartaaj takes over the Asian Network airwaves for one hour and talks about the Sufi musicians that have inspired him to create music that reaches out to audiences on all levels.
With a Doctorate in Music, Satinder first fell in love with Sufi music after hearing a qawwali performed by the legend Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He came to prominence with his worldwide hit Sai in 2010 and followed it up with songs including Cheerey Walia, Soohe Khat and Sajjan Razi and has now become one of India's most in-demand live musicians, regularly touring the US, Australia and Europe.
In this programme Satinder speaks eloquently about the different spiritual levels that a Sufi song encapsulates, why empathy is the driving emotion of every Sufi song, praises the poets of the past and picks those artists (including Abida Parveen and Saieen Zahoor) who help keep this musical genre alive today. Satinder also reveals which Sufi song is his all time favourite.
