Moving forward from this year of 1916 commemorations, Archbishops Eamon Martin and Richard Clarke reflect on their joint journey to the killings fields of the Somme and what it can teach society, while Dean John Mann of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, considers the just war theory and the dilemmas faced by many clergy in all countries in Europe as the war became seemingly endless.
Prof Fran Brearton for Queen’s University Belfast explores the use of poetry as an ethical response to conflict, and Gavin Glass MBE, curator of the Royal Ulster Rifles, shares the stories of the men gathered from all corners of the island in Ireland who lost their lives at the Somme.
