The Hay Festival has always been a fertile ground for new ideas in science. This year is no exception, with a wealth of thought-provoking science events planned. And a couple of them come with their own background music.

Adam talks to Wallbook author Christopher Lloyd about his collaboration with percussionist, Evelyn Glennie, and composer ,Jill Jarman, to create an audio narrative that details some of the scientific discoveries made over the past 10,000 years. And continuing the musical theme, he聽talks to geneticist and broadcaster Adam Rutherford about his theory that the evolutiion of Hip Hop music shares similarities to biological evolution. Adam Rutherford is hosting several other events at Hay too and will be presenting his regular聽Radio 4 show - Inside Science - from the festival site.

It may be the start of festival season, but it's also exam time for many students. And for a number of years Hay has worked with that dilemma by engaging young people with their remarkable Hay Levels project.聽 Prof Daniel Davis of Manchester University explains to Adam how it works and why science students can benefit.听听听聽
