Marathon running as a metaphor for life
Gillian Russell talks to first-time marathon runner Debs Miles about her mental and physical preparations, plus life coach Pete Cohen explains how they can be applied to life.
As thousands gear up for the London Marathon, Gillian Russell speaks to first-time runner Debs Miles about the mental and physical preparations she's gone through and how she anticipates she'll deal with various barriers on the day.
Life coach Pete Cohen advises on how to prepare mentally for a challenge like a marathon and explains how these skills can be applied to the hurdles we face in everyday life. When someone conquers or survives a challenge, whether it's a sporting event or a life challenge, they begin to understand their strength and find the confidence to perhaps take on something else. The key is to get the support you need around you.
Ally MacPherson has a completely unique location for his running - he works long shifts on a ferry to and from the Western Isles so he runs round the car deck, hundreds of times! He talks about how he manages to make this work and reveals the impact that exercise and a change in eating habits have had on his life.
