A spiritual comment and prayer to begin the day, with the Right Reverend Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester.

Script
Good morning. As this new day begins I will open and close many doors. I will move between bedroom, bathroom and kitchen; and there will be the opening and closing of doors as I exit and enter the house.
The doors in our home at Bishopscourt define different spaces. They allow for privacy as well as welcome. At times our doors appropriately keep people out and at other times they offer hospitality and welcome people in.
Last week, when I was visiting a prison I was aware of so many doors needing to be unlocked and locked during the day, and as we moved around.
Doors can create places of confinement or places of sanctuary.Μύ Doors can speak of welcome and safety. They can also speak of imprisonment or fear.
When Jesus appeared to his friends on the evening of his resurrection from the dead, he found them gathered behind locked doors in a place of fear and anxiety. And his words to them were βPeace be with you.β
I wonder how many doors you will pass through today. Or perhaps you will long to welcome someone coming in; or perhaps long for a locked door to be openβ¦
God of our comings and goings, in a world where there is so much fear and anxiety, so much retreat and separation; may the open and closed doors of our day speak of the peace of Christ. Amen
