The British team - led by talisman Andy Murray - claimed their first Davis Cup triumph since 1936 in 2015. Murray was the star of the show as Britain claimed their 10th title overall - just five years after they had narrowly avoided relegation to the fourth and lowest tier of the competition.
This first-round tie pits them against Japan and if Britain get through they will face either Serbia or Kazakhstan. The British team's only previous meeting with Japan was back in 1931 - their modern-day team could include 2014 US Open finalist Kei Nishikori.
