Putting fun back into fitness

Gillian Russell finds out why some people view exercise as a chore and looks at ways to make fitness fun.

What does the word "exercise" make you think of? Slog? Punishment? Mindless gyms? Too much lycra? Endless cycling? Boring? A necessary chore? If gyms and jogging aren't for you then perhaps we need to get back to childhood and inject some fun into getting fit...

Mary and Cat explain how taking up badminton just for fun has led them to getting fitter, losing weight and gaining in confidence. As a result they've even now stepped inside the gym and joined boxing classes!

Psychologist Dr Charlotte Hilton talks about why some people find exercise a slog and whether it's possible to change your mindset to viewing fitness as fun.

5 X 50 Challenge organiser Raymond Wallace talks about why they've changed the challenge to inject more fun into it and include activities for those who just don't love running, cycling or swimming ... while 59-year-old Kenny Brown reveals why he's decided to give it a go this year.

Personal Best volunteer John Moy talks about the challenges he's faced over the winter and how his new-found love for cycling (inspired by this programme!) has helped him not just get fitter but also change his lifestyle as well as lifting his mood.
