One to one with Lang Lang

In this week’s programme Tom Service meets possibly the most famous pianist in the world today: Lang Lang.  The Chinese pianist talks frankly about his upbringing and life and how he’s trying to find more time for Lang Lang the person rather than Lang Lang the international pianistic superstar.  He discusses his musical heroes including Sergei Rachmaninov, Vladimir Horowitz and Gary Graffman - his mentor, friend and neighbour in New York, and talks about his growing involvement in music education through his teaching books, online tools and the piano school he's founded in Shenzhen, China.   He also reveals his new musical passion - the piano works of Isaac Albeniz and how a hotel guitarist inspired his performance of one of his works, which he performs live in the studio to end this fascinating musical encounter.
