Adventures in Sound: Samuel Blaser and Julie Kjaer
Music from Adventures in Sound, an improvisation event at the 2015 EFG London Jazz Festival, including trombonist Samuel Blaser and his quartet, plus saxophonist Julie Kjaer.
Jez Nelson presents more music from Adventures In Sound, an afternoon of cutting-edge improvisation at the 2015 London Jazz Festival, curated by Jazz on 3.
Performances come from leading Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser and his quartet, featuring pianist Russ Lossing, bassist Masatoshi Kamaguchi and drummer Gerald Cleaver, who offer a brooding set full of shifting textures and elegiac melodies that pack an emotional punch. Danish saxophonist Julie Kjær links up with renowned British improvisers John Edwards and Steve Noble for a performance that juxtaposes fragility with forceful groove. And a series of spontaneous collaborations, from topflight musicians who have never played together before, adds a further frisson of unpredictability.
