Three people have died in a gun attack at a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Colorado Springs. Nine others were wounded. John Suthers - the Mayor of Colorado Springs - spoke at a press conference after the gunman was arrested. James Cook, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s correspondent in LA is following the story.

The Chancellor, George Osborne, has offered subsidies - not only to buyers but also to developers and housing associations to ensure that more houses get built. Shares in the major house builders rose on the news but can this plan deliver where so many in the past have failed? Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ reporter Sanchia Berg finds out.

Stop the War Coalition is holding a 'National Day of Action' today ahead of the vote on possible airstrikes in Syria by the UK. Similar protests, public meetings and actions are planned in eighteen towns and cities, including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and Swansea. Russia has strengthened its anti-aircraft defences in Syria by moving a cruiser towards the coast and deploying new missiles at its main base. The row over Turkey's downing of a Russian combat jet on Tuesday rages on. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned Russia not to "play with fire" with its operations in Syria. It is twenty five years since Margaret Thatcher left Downing Street after stepping down as Tory leader. A previously un-broadcast recording of a briefing - given by her private secretary Bernard Ingrams the previous week at the British Embassy in Paris - has come to light in the Thatcher archive at Churchill College Cambridge.

The former conservative chairman Lady Warsi wrote to her successor Grant Shapps in January asking for the party to do something about a tweet posted by Mark Clarke. It appears to contradict claims by the Conservative party that it had received no written complaints about the activist who is at the centre of a row over bullying in the party. He was suspended after the suicide of a young volunteer Elliot Johnson. Norman Smith, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s Assistant Political Editor reports.

Justice Lowell Goddard is chairing the child sex abuse inquiry and described it as, "The task ahead of us is daunting". It formally opened back in July and won't start public hearings until next year. There are 12 separate investigations in England and Wales. Jim Gamble is a former head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre and a child protection expert.
