Does the UK need a nuclear deterrent?

The UK government is expected to make a decision on Trident in 2016. David Cameron says it's a "good insurance policy". Does having Trident make us safer, or make us a target?

On Sunday, delegates at the Scottish Labour conference voted to oppose the renewal of Britain's Trident nuclear weapons system. It means that Scottish Labour is now at odds with the view of the UK Labour Party as a whole, but does that mean that it's wrong?
