Night of a Thousand Pipes
Nigel Ogden presents the first part of a concert to mark the reopening of the former Trocadero Elephant and Castle Wurlitzer in its new home at the Troxy Cinema in Stepney.
Nigel Ogden presents the first part of a concert held in August to mark the re-opening of the former Trocadero Elephant & Castle Wurlitzer in its new home in London's East End at the recently restored 'Art Deco' Troxy Cinema in Stepney. This instrument was originally brought to the UK from the USA in 1930, where it took up residence in the Trocadero Super Cinema at Elephant and Castle. During the 1970s, the instrument was installed in London's South Bank University, close to its original home, where it remained until 2004. It was moved to the Troxy in 2010 and so a 5-year long restoration by the Cinema Organ Society project began. The culmination of all this work is realised in this special performance featuring the talents of 2 of today's finest organists, Richard Hills and Robert Wolfe.
