On this week's episode of A Kist o Wurds
Liam
Logan heads to the Braidisland Gathering in Ballycarry, the east Antrim village
proud of a Scottish heritage dating back to 1609, and every September
Ballycarry hosts the biggest Ulster Scots day out of the year. Festival
Director David Hume tells Liam about the plans for this year’s event; Liam has
some crack with taleteller Billy Teare, and Valerie Beattie, Chair of the Community
Association, reminds Liam how close we are to Scotland. A day or two before the
Gathering, Liam drops by the Culture Night in Ballycarry, and meets spinners,
Ulster Scots enthusiasts, and samples some Jewish treats. Back at the
Gathering, Liam hears from John Fettis of the Major Sinclair Memorial Pipe Band
about their recent success in Glasgow, and Rev John Nelson tells Liam of the
history behind two brothers from Ballycarry, one a Nelson, the other a
Neilson.Β Β Β Β Β Β
