What's Your Limit?
Simon Jacob talks about his motivation to complete a triple ironman triathlon, plus Dr Niall Elliot explains what happens to the body when it is pushed to the limit.
Builder Simon Jacob talks to Gillian Russell about the physical and mental preparations for doing a triple ironman triathlon ... only 6 days after doing a single ironman. The triple ironman consists of a 7.2 mile swim, a 336 mile cycle and a 78.2 mile run. What possessed Simon to sign up for it, how does he fit his training in around work and family life ... and just how is he feeling about the daunting challenge with only a few days to go?
While most of us wouldn't ever consider a triple ironman, are you curious about what your body could perhaps achieve? At one time completing a marathon was the ultimate fitness goal but now lots of people are striving for more. Sports psychologist Dr Ian Boardley examines at the psychology and motivation for taking part in extreme events and suggests what we might get out of it mentally.
