Hazel Irvine introduces coverage of the delayed third round of the 144th Open at St Andrews.

Four of the last eight Open Championships have been won by Irishmen - with the Republic of Ireland's Padraig Harrington lifting the Claret Jug in 2007 and 2008 before Darren Clarke and Rory McIlroy, both from Northern Ireland, claimed victories in 2011 and 2014 respectively. However, Irish eyes may not be smiling if rising American star Jordan Spieth maintains his momentum. The 21-year-old has won both the Masters and US Open in 2015, and can become only the second man to win the first three major titles in a calendar year.
