It's been almost 15 months since the murder of Lucy Beale, and the police are determined to arrest their suspect.

A shocked Phil questions Marsden’s presence on his doorstep. Marsden states that she needs to speak to Ben regarding Lucy Beale’s murder; Phil slams the door in her face. Phil demands that Sharon hand him her phone and tries calling Ben, but in the Cokers’, Ben’s phone rings unnoticed. As Lola prepares to colour Jay’s hair, he gets a frantic phone call from Phil, claiming that he needs Jay to find Ben and to get him off the Square; the police want to talk to him about Lucy. Jay darts, claiming Ben’s in trouble. Marsden shouts that Phil has one minute to answer the door or it’s being beaten down. As an officer goes to ram Phil’s front door, Phil appears and lets Marsden and Keeble in; Keeble searches the place for Ben.

Phil puts on a confident front to Marsden, who informs him that they’re checking all of the Mitchells’ houses and that she’ll need to talk to Jay too. Marsden clocks that Phil has only let her in because it suits him them being in the house – time to stall Ben. Billy calls Phil and informs him that the police have been over, looking for Ben. Billy pales when he clocks the newspaper headline ‘New suspect in Lucy Beale murder case’. Phil phones Jay and warns him that the police want to speak to him too. Jay meets Phil in the café and questions where it leaves him if the police find Ben – he was with Ben on the night of Lucy’s murder. Phil classes Jay’s concerns as even more of a reason to find Ben. As Phil and Jay leave the café, they clock Ben. Jay goes to head Ben off whilst Phil distracts Keeble and Marsden. Marsden spots Ben and Jay shouts at Ben to run. Being hot-footed by police, Ben legs it down Bridge Street, across George Street and onto the Square. The police catch up with him and DCI Marsden arrests Ben on suspicion of the murder of Lucy Beale. Phil, Abi, Max, Ian and Jane watch on. As Ian goes to step in, Jane firmly tells him to leave it. Back at the Beales’, Ian is in shock when he sees Jane produce Lucy’s phone and wallet, confused as to why Jane has kept hold of them. Ian is horrified when Jane holds out the evidence and suggests that maybe the police have got it right...

As Jane, Cindy and Ian debate who could possibly have been arrested, Bobby enters and informs the trio that there are police outside Phil’s house. Ian insists that he wants to head over but Jane worries he’ll slip up and insists she’ll go. Jane bumps into DCI Marsden who promises to come round later to explain what’s going on. Sharon arrives at the Beales’ who informs them that the police are looking for Ben. When Sharon doubts Ben’s innocence, Bobby overhears and claims that he wants to know who hurt Lucy; he wants to feel safe.

Abi angrily berates Max for talking down to Ben and suggests that Max just wants to make others feel as miserable as he is. Carol firmly reminds Max that he has bridges to build with Abi. In the Minute Mart, Max bumps into Bryant who draws Max’s attention to the ‘new suspect’ headline. Abi heads over to see Max, who apologises – Abi admits she’d appreciate it if he apologised to Ben too; straight away.

Pam and Les hover outside the door to where Paul is with Ben and Pam enthusiastically suggests to Les that giving Paul a few odd jobs around the place will lead to ‘Coker and Grandson’. Pam knocks on the door asking to come in; Ben hides under a coffin. Pam leads Paul out for dinner, leaving Ben locked in the room alone. Paul hastily finishes his dinner whilst Pam gently reminds him that tending to the dead isn’t a bad idea. A frantic Jay shows up looking for Ben, but Paul denies any knowledge. Paul cottons on to Pam’s enthusiasm for him working in the parlour, but maintains that he has his own life to live.
