The Importance of Sleep

Gillian Russell explores the detrimental effect of sleep deprivation following reports that 60 per cent of adults are not getting the recommended amout of sleep per night.

How well do you sleep? Apparently 60% of adults are failing to get the recommended amount of sleep each night which can lead to mental health problems. This week Gillian Russell will be exploring how sleep deprivation stops you from being your Personal Best. She will be joined by the Sleep Guru, who suffered from chronic insomnia for 15 years until turning to yoga, meditation and changing her diet to combat her battle with the zzzz's
We'll also hear from Edinburgh Mum, Shannon Nelson about how family life and her own mental health was turned upside with her daughter's poor sleeping.

And sleep specialist Dr Paul Reading explains what is actually happening to us mentally and physically when we are 'drunk' with sleep deprivation.
