Farm Vets

Around 850 students graduate from veterinary schools in the UK every year, but only 4 per cent of them go into full-time farm work. Charlotte Smith learns about their work.

Farming Today This Week explores the work of farm vets. Around 850 students graduate from veterinary schools in the UK every year, but only 4% of them go into full-time farm work. In today's programme, Charlotte Smith joins a vet in Dursley near Stroud in Gloucestershire as she goes out on her rounds. We also hear from the president of the British Veterinary Association, who explains the changing role of vets on farms in the 21st century. Emma Campbell also visits the horse hospital where the president of the British Equine Veterinary Association works, and finds out why there may be too many vets competing for too few jobs in years to come.

Presented by Charlotte Smith and produced by Emma Campbell.
