Zone One Brass in Session and the First Brass Band Ballet

Frank Renton talks to Ian Porthouse about Dark Arteries, the first ballet with music written for brass band, and Zone One Brass play live with conductor Richard Ward.

Frank Renton talks to Ian Porthouse who has just conducted the first ballet ever written for Brass Band - Dark Arteries by Gavin Higgins . The work marks the 30th anniversary of the miners' strike and was performed by Ballet Rambert with Tredegar Town Band at Sadler's Wells. There's also music from Zone One Brass in session. Formed in 2002 to give students at The Royal College of Music in London experience of brass band repertoire and playing, it's now regularly in the Championship section playing at the National Finals in the Royal Albert Hall. The conductor is Richard Ward.
