Ray Davies
Russell Davies interviews Ray Davies.
Russell Davies interviews A-list legends of music, art, comedy and film. This week, Russell is in conversation with The Kinks frontman, Ray Davies.
In the week of the Tony Awards, Russell delves into the story behind the homegrown and very British musical, Sunny Afternoon, which recently won four Olivier Awards. The story depicts the rise to fame of The Kinks set against the back-drop of a Britain caught mid-swing between the conservative 50s and riotous 60s. Russell delves into the stories behind the iconic songs of Ray Davies which inspired the musical, based on an idea he had over 3 decades ago.
Ray discusses his experiences of touring the world as a leading figure in the British Invasion, his refusal to conform to the demands of fame and what those songs mean to him now, accompanied by a soundtrack of some of his most well-known hits.
