Linda questions Mick over whether he thinks they’re doing the right thing by not doing a DNA test. Mick explains that if he were to find out that Lee, Nancy or Johnny weren’t his, he’d still feel like their dad – he doesn’t need proof. Shirley asks Dean to leave Mick to her, but Buster watches on as Dean buys a teddy for the baby. Whitney and Lee visit the hospital. Alone with Mick, Whitney admits that she thinks it’s amazing what he’s doing – for looking after the baby no matter what. Mick deems it a no-brainer, but there are obvious doubts beneath the surface. As Linda returns from saying goodbye to Lee and Whitney, she runs straight into Dean, who suggests naming the baby Kevin. In the Vic, as Shirley tries to convince Mick to stop ignoring her, he gets a phone call from a hysterical Linda and dashes off to the hospital.

When the nurse informs Linda that Dean is still out there, Linda takes matters into her own hands and confronts Dean – telling him to stay away from them; he has nothing to do with her son. Having witnessed this exchange, the nurse approaches Mick and asks whether he knows his blood group – they know Linda’s and the baby’s, and Patient Services will have his on file. Linda worries to Mick that Dean’s never going to leave them alone, no matter what they do. Mick comes clean to Linda – he’s going to find out his blood group to discover whether he’s the baby’s father – they need Dean out of their lives for good. On the way to get some air, the nurse hands Mick a file, containing the results. Alone, Mick opens up the envelope, and drops to the floor, wracked with emotion.

Charlie and Fatboy visit Dot in prison. The pair put on a positive front as they inform Dot that Ritchie thinks they might get a verdict today. Charlie tries to convince Dot that she needs to tell the judge that she was confused, but Dot stands firm – she can’t lie. Charlie desperately tries to convince Ritchie that there must be something they can do for Dot. When Ritchie shoots down Charlie’s idea of pleading diminished responsibility, Charlie snaps. Fatboy tries to calm Charlie down, but things get heated and Fatboy blames Charlie for Dot’s situation, leading to the pair getting into a physical fight. When Roxy goes to see to Matthew, Charlie runs out of the house and jumps into a cab. Charlie finds DI Keeble outside the police station and states that he killed Nick – claiming Dot had nothing to do with it.

Keeble sees straight through his act and runs him through what’ll happen if he sticks to that statement. Keeble sees Charlie’s vulnerability and suggests that the best thing he can do is just to be there for Dot. In court, Dot looks crestfallen as the prosecution give their closing speech. As the defence make their closing speech, it is re-iterated that there is no physical or forensic evidence from the scene of the crime, which suggests that Dot administered Nick’s fatal overdose. The judge dismisses the jury, to commence their deliberations. In the waiting area, Charlie and Fatboy apologise to each other. Sooner than expected, the family are called back into the court room. Everyone is on tenterhooks as the foreman of the jury announces that they have decided whether or not they find Dot guilty of murder...

Phil hands a file from Ritchie, to Ronnie, and shows her a picture of Kim, describing her as Vincent’s wife. Ronnie reminds Phil that it doesn’t change anything; Vincent still thinks that Phil killed Carl White. Phil meets Vincent in the Car Lot. When Vincent brings up Carl, Phil presents Vincent with pictures of his family, suggesting that he can make them disappear. Vincent calls Phil an ageing old crook, and when Phil swings for him, punches Phil to the floor.

As Shabnam tries to study, a postcard from Kush arrives. Shabnam is less than impressed and explains to Masood and Tamwar that Kush texted a picture to Martin of him and his football mates in the Red Light District. Fatima arrives, much to Masood’s surprise. Fatima fills Shabnam in - she’s found her a date, Asim, and he’s coming over. Alone with Masood, Shabnam admits that she does love Kush, but doesn’t believe that he’s ever going to want to commit. As Fatima cooks lunch, Shabnam gets a text from Kush, telling her he misses her. Shabnam proclaims that she can’t go through with the date, but it’s too late – Asim has arrived.
