China’s Domestic Violence Problem and One-Child Policy

The All-China Women’s Federation estimates that domestic abuse takes place in nearly a quarter of Chinese families; but only very recently has this issue been brought to light in international media. The Guardian’s China Correspondent Tania Branigan joins Jane to discuss the issue. We also discuss China’s one-child policy, in place since 1980.

Ruth Rendell

Labour Peer and crime writer Ruth Rendell passed away on Saturday at the age of 85. She was last on Woman's Hour in August 2014 to talk to Jenni about the 50th anniversary of her most famous character Inspector Wexford.

China’s one-child policy is still in place and although there have been softer restrictions in recent years,  the policy has left a huge impact on the first generation of Chinese people forced to grow up without siblings. Chinese journalist and author Xinran joins Jane to talk about her new book which focuses on that impact.

The Election Campaign In Northern Ireland

On Thursday Northern Ireland will be electing 18 MPs. And tonight voters will have the opportunity to see five of the party leaders in a televised debate. We hear about the role women are playing in this election and about some of the issues that women voters are weighing up.      Jane talks to Karen Patterson, Presenter of the Â鶹ԼÅÄ’s Good Morning Ulster.

Ella Woodward Cooks the Perfect..Sweet Potato Brownies

In 2011 Ella Woodward was diagnosed with a rare medical condition, which meant that she couldn’t walk down the street, slept for 16 hours a day and was in pain most of the time.  When conventional medicine failed to help her, she decided to completely overhaul her diet, giving up gluten, dairy, sugar, meat and all processed food overnight, and after  eighteen months, her symptoms started to disappear. She started experimenting with recipes and blogging about her new approach to food.  Her blog Deliciously Ella now receives around 6 million hits a month. She joins Jane to talk about her philosophy for healthy eating and she makes her sugar and gluten free

Deliciously Ella is published by Yellow Kite Books
