Paul Gambaccini blends digital tracks from the week's US charts of songs, albums, R&B, country and rock hits with LP and singles tracks from the last six decades.
Paul Gambaccini presents tracks from this week's US charts and hits from the last six decades.
Each week, songs are played connected to members of 'The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame'. Working alphabetically through the list, Paul celebrates the induction of Neil Diamond by playing 'Cracklin' Rosie'. Bo Diddley' is also heard performing his hit 'Bo Diddley'. In 'A Matter Of Life And Death', we celebrate the birthday on this date in 1970 of Stu Cook, bass player with Creedence Clearwater Revival by playing the group's version of 'Suzie Q'. Paul pays tribute to comedian Stan Freberg, who has recently died. We hear his 1953 American number one 'St. George And The Dragonet'. 'It's Not The Same Old Song' highlights 'You Are' by Lionel Richie and a different song with the same title by Charlie Wilson.
In the feature called 'Beyond The Sea', Paul plays tracks from the biggest selling albums by UK artists in America. Tonight, we hear tracks from LPs by George Shearing and Tears For Fears. 'The Other Number Ones' are records that reached the top of the American chart in 'Cash Box' magazine, but not in the 'Billboard' Hot 100. This week's examples are by Elvis Presley and Boz Scaggs.
Our R&B number ones are from 1971 and now by The Jackson 5 and Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. We hear Country number ones from 1973 and this week by Charlie Rich and Sam Hunt. Our featured past and present Rock number ones are by Kings Of Leon and Walk The Moon. The week's best selling album is 'Future Hearts' by All Time Low and the number one digital song is 'See You Again' by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth.
