Internet of Things
Adam Walton discusses the "Internet of Things" or "IoT". April 9th marks the fifth annual Internet of things Day, and the programme explains the idea behind it and how will impact on all our lives in the coming decade.
Joining Adam throughout the programme is Vic Grout, Professor of Computing Futures at Glyndwr University in Wrexham, and a member of the European Internet of Things Council.
All manner of "things" from home heating systems, fridges, clothes, and tins of baked beans, to livestock and acres of farmland could soon be connected to the internet and streaming live data. The programme discusses the implications of the mass of data that will be generated, and the pros and cons of this fully connected world.
We also hear from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones with his take on the IoT. And, there's news of a pilot project being conducted by Lancaster University and Bangor University into how the farming community could benefit from the careful implementation of the IoT in rural areas.
