One year after the Ebola outbreak was officially declared in West Africa, the head of the United Nations response has predicted that the epidemic will be over by the end of August.聽 More than ten thousand people have died in what has been the most complex, extensive and prolonged outbreak of Ebola the world has ever known. One of the organisations that have been at the forefront fighting Ebola -- Medicins Sans Frontieres -- has published a report in which it details the effects of what it calls a "global coalition of inaction".聽 The three-month delay in its official recognition has been blamed for its rapid spread to neighbouring Sierra Leone and Liberia, while other west African countries such as Nigeria and Mali also suffered fatalities. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has been criticised for its slow response while governments and charities have admitted they could have done things differently. MSF, which had emergency teams on the ground in Guinea before Ebola was even officially declared, said despite raising the alarm that the epidemic was out of control, "it was like shouting into a desert". Christopher Stokes is general director of Medecins Sans Frontieres in Brussels and Dr Margaret Harris is a spokeswoman for the World Health Organisation in Geneva.

A senior Conservative source has indicated that the party's suspended general election candidate for Dudley North - Afzal Amin - will be sacked within a matter of days. Mr Amin has been accused of plotting to persuade the far-right English Defence League to announce a local march and then scrap it, allowing him to take the credit for defusing tensions. He denies doing anything wrong, and says footage of his meetings with the EDL has been "grossly misrepresented". Reporter Bob Walker has been to Dudley to see what relations are like in the community.

President Obama has led tributes from around the world to the first prime minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, who's died at the age of 91. A period of national mourning has been declared until his funeral next Sunday. During three decades in power up to 1990, Lee Kuan Yew oversaw Singapore's traumatic separation from Malaysia, its independence from Britain, and its transformation from sleepy port to international financial and business centre. But he was also known for his authoritarianism. Professor Tom Plate met Lee Kuan Yew over a number of years in preparation for his book 鈥淐onversations with Lee Kuan Yew: Citizen Singapore: How to Build a Nation鈥� and is Loyola Marymount University's Distinguished Scholar of Asian and Pacific Studies in LA.

The last Plantagenet king will be reinterred at Leicester Cathedral on Thursday. Yesterday a procession containing his remains took place close to where he died on Bosworth Field before the coffin was conveyed to the church in a cortege, with his remains inside an oak coffin lined with lead.聽 A service was in the Cathedral, conducted by the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nichols. King Richard III's remains have arrived at Leicester Cathedral ahead of his reburial. His funeral cortege entered the city at the historic Bow Bridge after touring landmarks in the county. Cannons were fired in a salute to the king at Bosworth, where he died in 1485. Louis Deacon is a former Leicester Tiger and England rugby international and Sarah Harrison is city centre director for Leicester and lead on tourism.

He has been working in Ebola treatment clinics in Sierra Leone since the beginning of the outbreak. He works for "King's Health Partners" a British Academic Health Science Centre which brings together King's College London and three London NHS hospital trusts.

The Greek Prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, is due to meet the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in Berlin today to discuss the ongoing financial crisis in his country. UKIP are saying they would increase spending on defence by 拢3bn a year if they were in Government. The party's economic spokesman, Patrick O'Flynn, will make the commitment in a speech setting out UKIP's public spending plans. He says UKIP they would spend 拢16bn more on defence over the next Parliament than the current government under its latest spending plans. UKIP says it is the only party committed to meeting the NATO guideline which says that member countries should spend 2% of their GDP on defence.
