1. The Gunman

Synopsis: Sean Penn (Jim Terrier) stars as a former Special Forces soldier and military contractor suffering from PTSD. He tries to reconnect with his long time love, but first go on the run from London to Barcleona and across Europe in order to clear his name.

3. The Voices

Synopsis:Jerry is an affable singleton who works on the factory floor at a bathtub factory, ever eager to get along with his co-workers, especially Fiona and Lisa from accounts. After work Jerry goes home to his pet cat, Mr Whiskers, and loyal dog Bosco, where the three of them hang out, watch TV and discuss the days' events. When one night he accidentally kills Fiona, Jerry hastily covers his tracks, under the strict advice of the subversive Mr Whiskers. But Jerry is already beyond the reach of his well-meaning psychiatrist Dr Warren and things are also looking bad for Lisa, who has taken a shine to Jerry. Despite Bosco trying to keep Jerry on the straight and narrow, Mr Whiskers seems to be the loudest voice in Jerry's head and soon events has spiralled and salvation is all Jerry can hope for.

It's hard to believe that "His Dark Materials Trilogy" is celebrating it's 20th anniversary yet at the same time this multi-award winning series seems to have been with us forever. Philip Pullman has won both the Carnegie medal and the Carnegie of Carnegies. He was the first children's writer to win the Whitbread (now Costa) Book at the Year Award.Ìý

1. Stevie starring Zoe Wannamaker at Hampstead Theatre
The delightfully eccentric bard of Palmers Green, Stevie Smith, commutes to the West End to her work as a secretary as a publishing company. Her evenings are spent at home with her beloved Aunt - a world of Battenberg cake, gossip, ginger nuts, and sherry in tiny glasses. But at the same time as leading this seemingly mundane suburban existence, she is writing the piercing poetry and prose that will one day make her famous.

2. Man and Superman starring Ralph Fiennes at National Theatre
Jack Tanner, celebrated radical thinker and rich bachelor seems an unlikely choice as guardian to the alluring heiress, Ann. But she takes it in her assured stride and, despite the love of a poet, she decides to marry and tame this dazzling revolutionary. Tanner, appalled by the whiff of domesticity, is tipped off by his chauffeur and flees to Spain, where he is captured by bandits and meets The Devil. An extraordinary dream-debate, heaven versus hell, ensues. Following in hot pursuit, Ann is there when Tanner awakes, as fierce in her certainty as he is in his.
Man And Superman runs a the Lyttelton, National Theater until 17th May.

3) THE SARAH KANE SEASON - Sheffield
Continuing the company’s tradition for dedicating seasons to playwrights whose work has influenced a generation, this year Sheffield will stage the complete works of the playwright Sarah Kane, with productions of Blasted – directed by Richard Wilson, and Crave and 4.48 Psychosis – directed by Charlotte Gwinner. Alongside this, Evans will direct semi-staged readings of Phaedra’s Love and Cleansed; and a screening of her film Skin.

4) CLOSER starring Rufus Sewell at The Donmar by Patrick Marber
On its premiere in 1997, Closer won Olivier, Evening Standard and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards. Since then, the play has been produced in more than 200 cities across the world. David Leveaux now brings this most intimate of plays to the Donmar stage.

5) GAME at The Almeida by Michael Bartlett
In a housing crisis, a young couple are offered a home of their own. But at what price?
The world premiere of this provocative new play by Mike Bartlett invites us to spy on a family as they embark upon a dangerous new way to live.
Audiences will see the Almeida auditorium radically transformed in a production that offers an unnervingly intimate viewing experience.
This production reunites writer Mike Bartlett with acclaimed director-designer duo Sacha Wares and Miriam Buether .

We are spoilt for choice with Literary festivals here in the UK, and no matter what the time of year, we're never too far away from a good book festival. There is obviously an appetite though as more and more seem to be cropping up every year. This weekend sees the opening of another - a boutique book festival with a bit of difference.Ìý
