Louise White asks if gender equality will ever be achieved.
The U.N. agency promoting equality for women lamenting that a girl born today will be an 81-year-old grandmother before she has the same chance as a man to be CEO of a company - and she will have to wait until she's 50-years-old to have an equal chance to lead a country.
Yesterday was International Woman's day which represented an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. The first International Women's Day was held in 1911. Thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women with organisations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women's groups, corporations and the media celebrating the day. The findings from the United Nations suggest that we are a long way from gender equality and progress is slow.
