Would you change your shopping habits to help Scottish farmers?
Changing tastes are being blamed for a collapse in the amount of people buying Scottish potatoes last year. Along with a bumper harvest across Europe pushing down prices the popularity of rice and pasta has had a knock on effect on spuds sales (dropping by Β£105m to Β£170m). The Potato Council want you to eat more of the vegetable with their director Dr Rob Clayton said: "It's vital potatoes remain a staple on Scottish plates." The Press and Journal have also recently launched a campaign urging shoppers to support local farmers by buying as much Scottish and British produce as possible.
