Early diagnosis of cancer saves lives, but people are still reluctant to tell their doctor about symptoms. Louise White asks listeners for their views.
Early diagnosis of cancer saves lives, so why are we so reluctant to go to the doctor with symptoms? Call Louise White with your thoughts on 0500 92 95 00
People who dismiss their symptoms as trivial or worry about wasting the doctor's time may decide against going to their GP with red-flag cancer warning symptoms, according to a Cancer Research UK study published in the British Journal of General Practice.
Many of the people interviewed had red flag symptoms but felt that these were trivial and didn't need medical attention, particularly if they were painless or intermittent. Others might decide not to get possible cancer symptoms checked out because they fear a cancer diagnosis, they adopt a stiff upper lip, they lack confidence in the healthcare system, or they think their problem is down to ageing.
If you have had experience of cancer or know of someone who has, Louise would love to hear from you on 0500 92 95 00 or text 80295.
