Louise White asks if obesity can be tackled in the same way as smoking and drinking.
Figures from the Scottish Health Survey out this week show that although smoking and drinking habits are down, obesity remains a sizeable problem. Sixty eight per cent of men and sixty one per cent of women are overweight - with twenty five per cent of adults in Scotland now deemed obese.
Type 2 diabetes, which is linked to diet and lifestyle has continued to increase with now one in twenty in the population having it. The average dress size for women is 18 and men's waists are an average of 38.6 inches. Obesity is also linked to early deaths from cancer and heart disease. And it's not just adults who are guilty of being overweight - with 30 per cent of Scottish children now in this bracket.
Louise asks "Can obesity be tackled in the same way as smoking and drinking?".
