Toy Story

There's a temptation, particularly around this time of year, for parents to fprk out large amounts of money on 'educational toys'. Anything that might boost their child's interest and ability in science, technology and engineering will be thrown into the cart. But is this really the best way to engage youngsters with science? Some new and familiar voices to the programme join Adam Walton to give their views. Chemist Dr Vera Thoss, biologist Dr Pippa Moore and Dr Mark Neal, a senior lecturer in robotics all get to try out for themselves some of the offerings in the shops. And child psychologist Dr Mair Edwards offers her views on how children - and their parents - make their toy choices.
