A new report from is due out on what they describe the epidemic of violence against children around the world. Jane hears from the charity and from , who鈥檚 just back from visiting children and parents affected by violence in Nairobi.
Breast cancer pioneer Professor Craig Jordan
Professor Craig Jordan is one of the world鈥檚 pre-eminent experts in breast cancer research and treatment. He studied at the University of Leeds where his work provided the foundation for his future groundbreaking research into which has saved the lives of so many women with breast cancer. Its use was approved by the US Food and Drug administration in 1978. Craig has devoted his career to understanding the drug 鈥 its benefits, pitfalls and other applications.聽 He is returning to the University of Leeds this Saturday, October 25th 2014,聽to present their entitled: 聽鈥淟eeds' role in breast cancer breakthrough - the Tamoxifen tale鈥.
Common People: Alison Light on her history of an English family
When set out to write a book about her family history and investigate the untold stories of ordinary folk, she found paupers, publicans, skilled workers and an itinerant people who travelled to work in servitude or industry. This story of her people draws surprising parallels to lives today and to all our family histories. Alison joins Jane Garvey on Woman鈥檚 Hour to talk about our fascination with the past and how it relates to the present.
Feminist Nail Wraps
What have nail bars got to do with feminism?聽 Artist has been running the project which takes groups of women aged 12 鈥 24 and asks them to identify their feminist role models.聽 They then work within the local area using the nail bar as a vehicle to spread the stories of women who have changed their local communities.聽 Our reporter Henrietta Harrison went to see the project in action at the Fierce Festival in Birmingham.

This Thursday 23rd October many聽Indians all around the world will we be celebrating Diwali, the ancient Hindu festival of lights symbolizing the victory of light and over spiritual darkness. And to mark the festival, TV chef will be joining Jane to demonstrate a vegetarian dish of聽Paneer聽or聽 in tomato sauce, taken from her latest book, Anjum鈥檚 Quick & Easy. Dubbed 鈥榯he Indian Nigella鈥 Anjum believes Indian food is always evolving and can be adapted to busy lives without compromising on taste.
