Susan Hulme reports on the proceedings at Westminster where David Cameron says the fight against Islamic extremism is akin to a new Cold War.
The Prime Minister tells MPs that the UK "will not waver" in its aim to defeat terrorism, as he condemns as "barbaric" the killing of a second US hostage by Islamic State militants.
The Labour leader, Ed Miliband, agrees: "Events like this must strengthen, not weaken, our resolve to defeat them and he can be assured of our full support in standing firm against them."
Labour uses an opposition day debate to call for "misbehaving" energy companies to be stripped of their licences.
While up on the committee corridor, investigations continue into academy schools in England and the welfare of horses.
