James King with the film review

The Expendables 3

The return of ageing mercenary Barney Ross and his band of bounty hunters, this time heading to Eastern Europe in search of an old adversary long presumed dead. The Eighties-flavoured action sees regulars Sly Stallone, Jason Statham and Arnold Schwarzeneggar joined by new additions Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Harrison Ford.

The Congress

AΒ mix of live action and animated sci-fi where Robin Wright stars as herself - a middle-aged former leading lady now struggling for recognition in ageist Hollywood. After allowing her image to be digitally recorded and used in movies ad infinitum she then finds herself lost in an alternate reality where true identity has been overtaken by computer generated fantasy.

The RoverΒ

Film-maker David Michod's Mad Max-inspired follow-up to the award-winning Animal Kingdom. Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson star as outlaws in the Australian outback, ten years after global economic collapse has brought chaos to the planet.

DVD release CALVARY

Writer/director John Michael McDonagh follows Irish black comedy The Guard with Calvary, another existential crime drama starring Brendan Gleason that mixes laughter with tears and Catholic rage with religious insight. Gleason plays Father James, a troubled priest battling to sort out his own complex issues as well as those of his eccentric flock.
