Music in the Great War

For Radio 3's Music in the Great War season, Alyn Shipton presents listeners' requests with World War I connections, including Sidney Bechet, Bob Crosby and Humphrey Lyttelton.

As part of the Wold War One season on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, Alyn Shipton's selection of listeners' requests focuses on music with Great War connections. From 1919 there are tracks by Lieut. James Reese Europe and his Hellfighters Band, and there are evocative pieces by Sidney Bechet, Bob Crosby and Humphrey Lyttelton. The programme also includes more recent reflections on the human cost of World War One in recordings by Mike Westbrook and Stan Tracey.
