Britain had not had a men's singles winner since Fred Perry in 1936, but Murray ended that 77-year wait in style by beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

France's Marion Bartoli also made history with her first Grand Slam title in the women's tournament, claiming the title without losing a set after a dominant two weeks in south-west London.
