Dr Lorna Wing, the first person to use the term 鈥淎sperger鈥檚 Syndrome鈥�, died on Friday aged 85.听 Lorna was spurred to co-found the National Autistic Society in 1962 by her daughter Susan鈥檚 autism and she began to investigate the work of Hans Asperger who, in 1944, had studied and described children in his Austrian practice who lacked non-verbal communication skills.听 In 1981 Lorna published the paper 鈥淎sperger鈥檚 Syndrome: A Clinical Account鈥�, which popularised the diagnosis.听 Jane speaks to Lorna鈥檚 colleague Judith Gould.
