It's game on for planting vegetables in the Beechgrove Garden this week and Jim is planning a kale and chard chequerboard, planting a cabbage trial and comparing salad onions grown from plugs to those direct sown.

Carole is trying a range of so-called 'easy gardening' solutions. Flower scatter mixes are everywhere. They contain flower seeds, compost and fertiliser - all in the one pack. They make great claims. Carole is going to sow a range and see how they fare. Carole is also trialling some three-in-one plug plant trios for hanging baskets. Now is the perfect time to plant up hanging baskets indoors; they will be raring to go outside once risk of frost is past.

George is revamping the very tired 'old riverbed' in Beechgrove. He is creating a new flowing stream of those spring and autumn shades of blue beauties, gentians, in place of the old and now dry riverbed. George also visits Broadwoodside steading garden in Gifford. This beautifully designed garden manages to look good all year round but in this case George goes to see their imaginative use of spring bulb colour.
